Pekoe Trail Stage One
Galaha Pekoe Trail Stage One: Where Every Step Brews a Story
If you’ve ever dreamed of wandering through emerald hills, breathing in mist-kissed air, and walking paths steeped in history and tea, welcome to Galaha — the first sip in Sri Lanka’s breathtaking Pekoe Trail journey.
Our Trail Begins in Galaha
Stage One of the Pekoe Trail welcomed us with rolling green landscapes, rustling eucalyptus leaves, and the comforting scent of fresh earth after rain. Starting in the charming hill town of Galaha, this leg of the trail took us through quiet villages, shaded forest paths, and tea estate roads that echo with stories of the past.
Each step felt like walking through a living painting — mist drifting through pine trees, the distant chime of temple bells, and the occasional monkey watching us curiously from above.
π‘ A Serene Stay at Dunali Mountains
Before beginning the trail, we spent a night at Dunali Mountains Galaha, a hidden gem nestled in a peaceful mountain valley.
Surrounded by layers of green hills and cool mountain air, Dunali offered more than just a stay — it was an experience in itself. The view from the valley was stunning, especially in the early morning when clouds floated low over the landscape, wrapping the mountains in silence and mystery.
Waking up in that serene valley, sipping a hot cup of tea, and watching the mist gently roll across the hills was the perfect start to our adventure. The cozy setting, warm hospitality, and deep connection to nature made it unforgettable.
A Hidden Pond of Peace
One of the most unexpected and beautiful moments on our trail was discovering a tranquil little water pond tucked between the tea fields and trees.
The water was still and mirror-like, reflecting the blue sky and surrounding greenery like a painting. We paused here for a while, soaking in the silence, broken only by the soft splash of dragonflies and the distant chirp of birds.
It felt like nature had created a secret resting place just for us — a peaceful pocket in the wild, inviting us to breathe deeply and just be.
Sips of Culture and Community
The trail itself was a journey through time. We passed smiling tea pickers at work, children waving as we walked by, and locals tending to their gardens. It reminded us that this isn’t just a hike — it’s a story that weaves people, place, and tradition together.
A quick stop for freshly brewed Galaha tea at a small roadside shop? A must. Earthy, strong, and deeply local — just like the trail.
